7 Productive things you can do while on community quarantine.

Writer: Jake OlasoJake Olaso

I will be honest to you --this pandemic is getting scarier by the day. The fear of the unknown gets to me sometimes but I realized, it won't help if you just sulk in and worry. We all want this to be resolved and one way to contribute is to stay at home to prevent the spread of the virus.

And now that we have time, what are we going to do? Here are some 6 Productive things you can do while on community quarantine.

1. Learn something new.

Do you have that one thing that you really want to learn before but don't have time for it? Now is the perfect moment to get back and study. For me, I want to learn how to trade stocks. You don't really need to pay for anything to learn something new. The internet is the biggest library and use that to your leverage.

2. Re-assess your skills and/or update your resume.

I have been out of the workforce for 7 years now and I really haven't updated my resume or assess my skill sets. We can use this time to check up on our skills and connect to other people in the field. I also use this time to check on some freelancing and home based jobs while business is slow.

3. Catch up on your backlogs.

For the creative community, we can use this time to go back and finish those projects. Asses your process in doing things and optimize your system. This is also the perfect time to backup and clean your computer files. In general, start doing those personal projects you are trying to holding off for sometime. Create a plan and divide big tasks into smaller tasks so won't get overwhelmed.

4. Read a book.

I personally did not like reading since my attention span is very short. However, my mentors made me realize the power of reading. Since I started reading, it not only gave me wisdom and motivation, it also fixed my habits. It made me more productive and conscious about my time. If you want to start on you reading, I recommend the book by Robin Sharma "The monk who sold his ferrari". I am currently ready the "Millionaire messenger" by Brendon Burchard and it is empowering.

5. Organize your house / Documents / Family Photos

Just organize anything you think is out of order. You can start by organizing or cleaning your room. Organize your personal documents like bills, business documents, IDs etc. Organize the photos on your phone -- back it up on your computer and arrange it. Organize your life basically :P

6. Make a personal journal

It is like having a diary. A small pocket notebook hidden in your drawer. Write your thoughts daily. It is like talking to yourself and assessing how you are feeling. You will be surprised how therapeutic writing your thoughts will be.

7. Rest and Spend time with your loved ones

Rest is somehow being productive too. It is taking care of your body and unwinding the mind. In this trying times, we can all use some positive vibe and lessen our worry. Use this time to go and play with your child, talk to your partner, watch a movie, play a game, or do tiktok. This takes away our stress and loosen the overthinking mind. --- These are just some suggestions on how to spend our time wisely in this community quarantine. We can use our time however we want it but just remember lost time is never found again. Also, don't forget to keep yourself well-informed and updated with current events. I hope and pray we all get through this and get back to our normal lifestyle.

Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better.
Don't wish for less problems, wish for more skills.
Don't wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom. - Jim Rohn
